Labs ordering mitochondrial peptides in Canada will find three quite different research compounds grouped here, all shipped as freeze-dried powder, strictly for laboratory research use only. They share a focus on the mitochondrion, not a chemistry, so each is verified differently.

Mitochondrial peptides in Canada: the range

  • MOTS-c — a peptide encoded by mitochondrial DNA.
  • SS-31 (elamipretide) — a synthetic peptide built to reach the mitochondrion.
  • NAD+ — a coenzyme, stocked in 500 mg and 1,000 mg vials, the largest vial masses on this site.

All three count together toward the bulk pricing tiers.

MOTS-c: coded by the mitochondrial genome

Unlike almost every other peptide in the catalogue, MOTS-c is encoded by mitochondrial rather than nuclear DNA. It is 16 residues long (CAS 1627580-64-6, roughly 2,174.6 g/mol, C101H152N28O22S2; sequence MRWQEMGYIFYPRKLR) and belongs to a small group of peptides transcribed from the mitochondrial genome, a relatively young strand of the literature.

For QC: two methionines and one tryptophan mean three of sixteen residues can oxidise. Expect the main impurity 16 mass units above target, and store it more strictly than a sequence without them.

SS-31: engineered to target the inner membrane

SS-31 is a synthetic tetrapeptide (CAS 736992-21-5, around 639.8 g/mol, C32H49N9O5; sequence D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH2). It does not originate from mitochondria; it was designed to collect at the inner mitochondrial membrane, where its proposed partner is cardiolipin. Its alternating aromatic and cationic residues drive it there.

Half of its residues, the D-arginine and the dimethyltyrosine, are non-standard. Hydrolysis plus amino-acid analysis cannot tell D from L forms, so it cannot confirm this sequence; identity relies on measured mass and synthesis route. Background: SS-31, cardiolipin and membrane targeting and what studies of MOTS-c and SS-31 measure.

NAD+: a coenzyme, not a peptide

NAD+ (CAS 53-84-9, 663.4 g/mol, C21H27N7O14P2) is a dinucleotide coenzyme, grouped here for its function, not its structure. Peptide checks do not apply: it lacks a sequence to verify, a net peptide content figure is meaningless, and purity comes down to separating it chromatographically from the reduced form and from hydrolysis products. More in NAD+ in coenzyme research.

Testing and storage

Products are third-party tested, published certificates are on the COAs page in the form the lab issued them, and every vial is matched to its certificate by cap and crimp colour. Since two of these three compounds have oxidation routes, pair what degrades a peptide with purity verification by HPLC and mass spectrometry.

For laboratory research only — not for human or veterinary use. These materials hold no Health Canada or FDA authorisation, carry neither a DIN nor an NPN, and are not produced under pharmaceutical GMP.
