Description
SS-31 belongs to the Szeto-Schiller family of short peptides designed to cross cell membranes and concentrate in the inner mitochondrial membrane.
SS-31 10 mg, a cardiolipin-targeting tetrapeptide
Its four residues alternate aromatic and basic side chains: D-arginine, 2,6-dimethyltyrosine (Dmt), lysine and phenylalanine amide. That pattern gives a net charge of +3 at physiological pH while staying small enough, at 639.8 g/mol, to pass through membranes. Research attention focuses on its association with cardiolipin, a phospholipid found almost only in the inner mitochondrial membrane.
Labs use it in isolated-mitochondria and cell-culture models of oxidative stress and membrane organisation. The non-standard Dmt residue means it should be characterised against its own reference data rather than by analogy with ordinary tetrapeptides.

Questions about SS-31 Peptide 10mg
What is Dmt?
2,6-dimethyltyrosine, a modified tyrosine that is part of the designed SS-31 sequence.
Why is SS-31 described as cell-permeable?
Its alternating aromatic and cationic residues let it cross membranes despite carrying a positive charge.
What is SS-31 also known as?
Elamipretide. Both names describe the same D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH2 peptide.
